A sketch of a girl with a drawing pad on hand

Hi, I’m Ash! I started Simple Easy Drawing because I know how frustrating it feels to want to draw but not know where to begin. For a long time, I believed drawing required some special talent that other people seemed to have naturally. Over time, I learned that drawing is a skill that can be developed with practice, patience, and the right guidance.

After spending years focused on everything except drawing, I eventually found my way back to it. That journey helped me understand what beginners really struggle with and how a few simple steps can make drawing feel much more approachable.

I have a background in content writing and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, and I use both to create drawing lessons that are clear, practical, and easy to follow. I don’t overcomplicate things, and I don’t assume any prior experience. Every tutorial is designed for someone starting from zero.

Whether you’re a kid picking up a pencil for the first time, a parent teaching your child, or an adult finally giving drawing a try, this blog is made for you. I share simple step by step tutorials and directed drawing lessons that are easy to follow for all ages. Every tutorial is designed to be clear, beginner friendly, and enjoyable because drawing should feel fun, not overwhelming.

What Is Directed Drawing?

Directed drawing is a simple teaching method that breaks a picture into small, manageable steps. Instead of wondering where to start, you follow a series of guided instructions that gradually build the drawing from basic shapes into a finished artwork.

This approach helps beginners feel more confident because each step is easy to understand and complete. Directed drawing is popular with teachers, parents, homeschool families, and beginner artists because it removes the guesswork and makes the creative process more enjoyable.

Many of the lessons on Simple Easy Drawing use this approach to help learners build skills while having fun.

My Teaching Methodology

My teaching philosophy is simple: anyone can learn to draw when the process feels approachable.

Every tutorial on this site is built around three principles:

  • Break complex subjects into simple steps.
  • Focus on progress, not perfection.
  • Make drawing fun and accessible for everyone.

I carefully hand sketch every lesson with beginners in mind. Rather than rushing to create a perfect drawing, I focus on helping learners understand the process behind each step. My goal is to make every tutorial feel encouraging and rewarding, whether you’re drawing for five minutes or an entire afternoon.

No matter where you’re starting from, remember that every great artist began with a single line. Keep practicing, have fun, and enjoy the process.

Now, let’s put that pencil to work. ✏️
