Materials you will need

  • A piece of paper
  • An HB pencil
  • A dust-free eraser
  • A black sketch pen for outlines
  • Crayons or color pencils for coloring

Let’s get started!

Please note: In each step, the new parts of the drawing will be highlighted in orange, while everything you’ve already drawn will stay in black.

Step 1: Draw the bee’s head

Start by drawing a small circle in the middle of your page. This circle will be the bee’s head.

Step 2: Add the bee’s body

Next, draw an oval shape attached to the circle. The oval should tilt a little to one side, like the bee is flying upward. This oval will be the bee’s body. Already, you can see the basic outline of your little honey maker!

Step 3: Draw the bee’s wings

Now, let’s add some wings. On top of the bee’s body, draw two rounded shapes that look like petals of a flower. One should be slightly bigger than the other. Bees have small but strong wings, and yours will look cute and cartoon-like.

Step 4: Add the bee’s antenna and stinger

Add two small antennas above the bee’s head and a stinger below the body.

On top of the bee’s head, draw two small curved lines going upward. At the end of each line, make a tiny dot or curve. These are the bee’s antennas. They help bees sense the world around them. And then add a small thin triangle on the lower half of the body to resemble its stinger.

Step 5: Draw the bee’s face

Now it’s time to make your bee come alive! Inside the circle (the head), draw two small dots for eyes. Below the eyes, add a curved smile. Your bee should look happy and friendly—it’s always fun to give your drawing some personality!

Step 6: Add the bee stripes

Curved stripes drawn across the bee’s oval body

Now for the important feature of the bees, we need to add their black and yellow stripes. On the oval body, draw two or three curved lines to create the stripes. Make sure the lines follow the shape of the oval so that it looks round and natural.

Step 7: Final touches and outline

Take out your crayons or color pencils and color your bee. Use yellow for the body, black for the stripes, and light blue for the wings. Once you add color, your bee will look bright and cheerful. Then trace over your pencil drawing with a black sketch pen. Erase any extra pencil marks.

We’re all done!
