Hi everyone, welcome to Simple Easy Drawing! For many of us in the United States, it’s snowing outside right now, especially in parts of the Southeast and the Ohio Valley. It’s a wonderful time to stay cozy and do something creative.
If you have a snowy view from your window, grab a pencil and learn how to draw a snowman along with me. This is a very easy lesson, and we’ll go step by step together. As long as you can draw a few simple circles, you can make a snowman right here on your paper.
Let’s get started. Stay warm and safe, and happy drawing!

Fun fact: Did you know snowmen don’t have to be made of real snow? People all around the world draw and decorate snowmen even in places where it never snows. Cool, right?
Now let’s get started and draw it step by step.
Here’s an easy step by step tutorial that will help you draw a simple snowman:
Materials you will need
- A piece of paper
- An HB pencil
- A dust-free eraser
- A black sketch pen for outlines
- Crayons or color pencils for coloring
Let’s get started!
Before we begin, here’s one small thing to notice. In each step, the new parts of the drawing are shown in orange, and the parts you have already drawn stay black. This helps you clearly see what to add next.
Step 1: Draw your snowman’s head

Start by drawing a simple circle near the top of your paper. This circle will be the snowman’s head. Don’t worry about making it perfect. A slightly uneven circle can make your snowman look more cute and friendly.
Keep the circle light if you’re using a pencil. You will outline it later.
Step 2: Draw your snowman’s body

Just below the head, draw a larger circle that slightly touches the bottom of the head. This will be the snowman’s body. The body should be bigger than the head so the snowman looks balanced.
Now you can outline both circles neatly with your black sketch pen.
Step 3: Add your snowman’s stick arms

On each side of the body, draw a short line coming outwards. Then add small branch-like lines at the ends to make the arms look like sticks.
These arms don’t have to match exactly. Simple and slightly uneven arms look more natural for a snowman.
Step 4: Draw your snowman’s face

Inside the head circle, add two small dots for the eyes. Below the eyes, draw a small curved line for a smiling mouth. Then add a tiny curved nose in the center.
Keep the face simple. A few small lines are enough to give your snowman a happy expression.
Step 5: Draw the snowman’s scarf

Now it’s time to draw the scarf around the snowman’s neck. Draw a curved band just below the head, wrapping around the top of the body. Then draw one long strip hanging down the front.
This step is where you draw the snowman scarf, so take your time and keep the lines smooth. Scarves don’t need to be perfect.
Step 6: Add the snowman’s buttons

On the snowman’s body, draw two or three small circles going down the center. These will be the buttons.
Make sure the buttons are spaced nicely so they don’t touch each other.
Color your snowman!

Now you can color your drawing. Use orange for the nose, brown for the stick arms, and any color you like for the scarf. You can leave the snowman white or shade it lightly with a very pale blue or gray. Add some snowfall effect too to make fun.
You’re all done!

Great job! You’ve just finished learning how to draw a snowman step by step, and your drawing should look cheerful and complete. With practice, your lines will become smoother and your snowman will get even better each time you draw it.
If you want to keep going, try drawing another snowman with a different scarf or facial expression. That’s a fun way to improve your skills while drawing a snowman again and again.
A full step by step picture is attached with this lesson, so you can save it and come back to draw later whenever you like. You can also download the printable coloring page image to color your snowman again without redrawing it.
