Want to learn how to draw a snake but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry friend, you’re in the right place! In this fun and easy tutorial, we’ll go through a snake drawing step by step so that even beginners and kids can follow along without any trouble.
Snakes are fascinating creatures. They glide smoothly, come in so many different colours, and have patterns that make them look really cool. And guess what? Drawing a snake is actually super simple — just a few curves, some small details, and you’re done!
Here’s an easy step by step tutorial that will help you create a snake drawing easy and fun.

Before we start, make sure you have:
- A piece of paper
- An HB pencil for sketching
- A dust-free eraser
- A black sketch pen for outlines
- Crayons or colour pencils for colouring
Let’s get started with our snake drawing!
Tip: In each step, the new parts of the drawing are shown in orange in the reference image, while the parts you’ve already drawn stay black.
Step 1: Draw the snake’s head

Start by drawing a small curved “C” shape. This will be the top part of your snake’s head. Keep it soft and rounded — snakes have smooth shapes, so don’t make it too sharp.
Step 2: Draw the upper body

From the top of the “C,” draw a long, slightly wavy line going down like a reverse S. This line forms the upper part of the snake’s body. You can make the curve as gentle or as wiggly as you like!
Step 3: Draw the lower body

Now, go back to the bottom of the snake’s body and draw a curved line extending out. This will form the lower part of the snake’s body.
Step 4: Complete the outline

Now, draw another curvy line starting from the opposite side of the head and flowing down to meet the bottom part of the tail. This gives the snake its full body shape. Your snake should now look like a long, wavy tube with a rounded head.
Step 5: Add the face details

Time to bring your snake to life! Draw two small dots for eyes and a tiny forked tongue sticking out. You can make the tongue longer if you want your snake to look playful.
Step 6: Colour your snake

This is where you can get creative! Snakes come in many colours and patterns. Use greens, yellows, browns, or any colours you like. You can even add stripes, zigzags, or spots to make your snake unique.
We’re all done!
And that’s it — you’ve just learnt how to draw a snake in six simple steps! Wasn’t that easy? With just a few smooth lines and simple details, you’ve created your very own snake drawing.

I’ve attached a full step by step picture so you can save it and practise whenever you like. There’s also a printable snake coloring page — a clean outline version of the drawing that you can print out and colour in. It’s a great way to try different colour combinations and patterns until you find the one you like best.

Remember, the more you practise, the better your drawings will get. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect on the first try. Every artist improves with time. Try drawing a few more snakes with different shapes, sizes, and patterns to make them unique. You can draw them in however form you like.
