Quack, quack! Ducks are always fun to watch when they waddle around. I will help you learn how to draw a duck step by step by focusing on the curved wing and the round head. It is a straightforward sketch that works great for kids and beginners.
But before we start, here’s a cool fact about ducks. Did you know that ducks have waterproof feathers, so water rolls right off them when they swim? That’s why they can splash around in ponds without getting soaked. Now let’s get started.
Here’s an easy step by step tutorial that will help you create a simple and easy duck drawing.

Materials you’ll need
- A piece of paper
- An HB pencil
- A dust-free eraser
- A black sketch pen for outlines
- Crayons or color pencils for coloring
Let’s get started!
Please note: In each step, the new parts of the drawing are highlighted in orange, while the parts already drawn remain black. This makes it easier to see what to draw next.
Step 1: Draw the duck’s beak

Start by drawing a small oval shape beak on the top of your paper. This oval beak will later helps you place the duck’s head and body. Keep it light and simple. It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Step 2: Draw the duck’s body curve

Next, draw a large curved line below the head guide. This curve should look like a wide “U” shape. It forms the main body of the duck. Make the line smooth and rounded.
Step 3: Add the duck’s body outline

Now draw another curved line on the opposite side to close the body shape. Once this line is added, your duck’s body should look full and rounded, almost like a little floating shape.
Step 4: Draw the duck’s head and tail

From the body, draw a curved line that goes up and connects to the head guide. This line creates the duck’s neck and tail. Keep the curve soft and gentle, just like in the picture. There you go, we’ve successfully given our duck a proper body structure.
Step 5: Add the duck’s face details

Now add a small dot or oval for the duck’s eye on the head. You can also, give it a few lashes if you like. Keep these details simple so the duck looks cute and friendly.
Color your duck

You can color your duck any way you like. A classic choice is yellow, just like a rubber duck drawing you might see in a bathtub. You can color the beak orange and add a little shading if you want, but keeping it simple works best for this easy duck drawing. When you’re happy with it, trace over the final lines using a black sketch pen for outlines.
Great job!

Well done! You’ve learned how to draw a duck using simple shapes and lines. With practice, your duck drawing will feel quicker and smoother each time you try it. I have attached a full step by step picture so you can save it and draw later whenever you want.
