Hi everyone, welcome to Simple Easy Drawing! Today, we’re going to learn how to draw a boat. If you’re looking for a boat drawing easy enough for beginners, this tutorial is perfect for you. This little sailboat can be drawn in under two minutes once you understand the steps — it’s honestly one of the simplest sketches you can learn. Boats have a calm, peaceful charm, and drawing one feels almost relaxing, like watching gentle waves move across the water.
Before we start, here’s a fun fact: sailboats rely completely on wind, which means every journey depends on nature itself. That’s what makes a sail boat drawing feel so graceful — it’s a picture of movement without showing movement at all.
Here’s an easy step by step tutorial that will help you create a simple and easy boat drawing.

Materials you will need:
A piece of paper
An HB pencil
A dust-free eraser
A black sketch pen for outlines
Crayons or color pencils for coloring
Let’s get started!
Please note: In each step, the new parts of the drawing will be highlighted in orange, while everything you’ve already drawn will stay in black.
Step 1: Draw the water line

Start by drawing a simple wavy line across the bottom part of your paper. These gentle waves will be the water your boat sits on.
Step 2: Add a short straight line above the waves

Draw a short horizontal line a little above the waves. This will guide the top of the hull.
Step 3: Sketch the boat hull

Connect both ends of the horizontal line with slanted lines going downward, then draw a curved line at the bottom to form the hull of the boat.
Step 4: Draw the mast

From the center of the hull, draw a tall, straight vertical line going upward. This is your mast.
Step 5: Add the boom

Draw a short horizontal line from the mast toward the right. This small bar is the boom.
Step 6: Draw the sail

Create a triangle by connecting the boom to the top of the mast. This triangle becomes your sail.
Step 7: Add a flag and small details

Draw a tiny flag at the top of the mast. You can add extra waves or a stripe on the hull to make your boat more fun.
Step 8: Outline and color

Trace your drawing with a black sketch pen, erase pencil marks, and then color your boat. Choose bright colors for the sail and hull, and add a light blue shade for the water.
We’re all done
