Fun Lunchbox Drawing Worksheet for Kids | Free Printable

Want to know what a kid would actually want in their dream lunchbox? Here’s a chance to find out.

I made this lunchbox drawing worksheet as a fun little activity for kids, but I also think it can be pretty interesting for parents and teachers. Give it to a child and let them fill the lunchbox with whatever they would love to find inside. No suggestions, no healthy lunch list, no telling them what they should draw. Just let them decide.

And once you know what their dream lunch looks like, you could always surprise them one day by putting them in their real lunchbox. I have a feeling they’ll be pretty happy to open it that morning. That’s the idea behind this worksheet. A simple drawing activity that also gives you a little peek into what they’d really love to eat.

How to do the drawing activity

  1. Ask the child to imagine opening their lunchbox and finding exactly what they want inside. Ask what would make them excited to see?
  2. Have them fill the empty sections with their choices. They can draw one thing in each section or add several smaller foods together.
  3. Once they’ve drawn the main foods, they can add little details if they want. Maybe there’s a wrapper around something, a spoon beside it, or another small part of their lunch.
  4. When the drawing is finished, they can use crayons, colored pencils, markers, or whatever they like to bring their lunchbox to life.

Here’s what one young artist drew

I wanted to share one of the finished worksheets that came back to me.

One young artist filled their dream lunchbox with pasta, chocolate chip cookies, and French fries. Classic, ain’t it? I love this because it really shows how different everyone is. The worksheet is exactly the same, but what goes inside is completely up to the person drawing it. You may have a pretty good idea of your child’s favorite foods, but seeing them actually draw their dream lunch can tell you a little more. Maybe there’s a snack they didn’t mention before. Or maybe they just really, really want cookies.

A little memory from my school days

Making this worksheet actually made me think about what I would have wanted in my lunchbox when I was back in school.
My mom used to make this really simple dish with shredded bread, tomatoes, and eggs, and it was one of my favorites. I think I’d still pick that if I had to fill out my own dream lunchbox today.

And for snacks, I would have definitely wanted some chips because, honestly, who doesn’t love chips? A few chocolate chip cookies would have been pretty great too.

It also made me want to sit down and fill out my own lunchbox worksheet. So if you’re doing this with your kids, why not draw along with them? Fill in your own dream lunchbox and see what you come up with.

Think back to when you were in school. What did you love having in your lunch? Was there something your mom or dad used to pack that you always looked forward to? You can make your own version right alongside the kids. I think it could be pretty fun to compare your lunchboxes when you’re both finished.

I really enjoy seeing what happens when kids take one of my worksheets and make it their own. Sometimes they come up with ideas I never would have thought of, and that’s my favorite part. So go ahead and find out what’s really going in that dream lunchbox.
