Hamburger Drawing

Materials you will need:

  • A piece of paper
  • An HB pencil
  • A dust-free eraser
  • A black sketch pen for outlines
  • Crayons or color pencils for coloring

Let’s get started!

Please note: In each step, the new parts of the drawing will be highlighted in orange, while everything you’ve already drawn will stay in black. Now, let’s begin drawing our cute hamburger!

Step 1: Draw the buns

Two flat oval shapes drawn represent hamburger buns. The top bun is slightly larger than the bottom bun.

Start by drawing two simple oval shapes flat on one end. The top one should be a little bigger than the bottom one. These will represent the top and bottom buns of your hamburger. Don’t worry about making them perfect—hamburgers have a natural roundness to them, and that makes them more fun to draw!

Step 2: Draw the greens

Curved, wavy lines drawn just below the top bun to represent leafy lettuce sticking out.

Now, it’s time to add the lettuce or greens to our hamburger. Right under the top bun, draw some curved, wavy lines. These lines should look like the leaves of lettuce peeking out. Don’t make the lines straight—let them be bumpy and uneven to give the lettuce a more natural look.

Step 3: Draw the tomato filling

A rounded, slightly flattened oval shape added below the lettuce, showing a slice of tomato.

Next, right below the lettuce, draw a rounded shape. This will be your tomato slice. It’s important that the tomato is round and sits nicely under the lettuce. The tomato will add a nice pop of color later on when we start coloring the hamburger, so take your time getting the shape right.

Step 4: Draw a slice of cheese

A flat square or rectangle shape drawn below the tomato, with one corner slightly drooping to resemble melting cheese.

Before we add the patty, let’s put a slice of cheese on the burger. Draw a rectangle shape just below the tomato. The cheese should be a little flat and could even have a small drip of cheese hanging down from the edge, which will make your hamburger look even more delicious! This is the fun part where you can get creative with the cheese shape and how it flows over the other ingredients.

Step 5: Draw a thick patty and add some seeds

A thick, dark oval drawn below the cheese for the burger patty. Small dots are added on the top bun to represent sesame seeds.

Now for the most delicious part—the patty! Draw a thick oval or rounded rectangle shape just below the cheese. This will be the patty of the hamburger, so make sure it looks nice and juicy. You can even add little lines or dots on the top bun to represent sesame seeds. These seeds make the hamburger look even more realistic!

Step 6: Color the hamburger

Once you’ve finished all the lines, it’s time to add color to your hamburger drawing. Use brown for the buns, red for the tomato, green for the lettuce, and brown or golden for the patty. You can also add a bit of yellow for the cheese and the sesame seeds with a light yellow or cream color to complete the look.

We’re all done!
