Hi, welcome back to another tutorial at Simple Easy Drawing! Today, I’m going to show you how to draw a bunny step by step. I’ve designed this directed drawing lesson to make drawing a bunny as easy as possible. Nothing complicated, just a few simple shapes that come together one step at a time. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to learn, including kids and beginners.
A bunny is also called a rabbit, so you’ll often hear people use both names. They’re the same animal. A hare is a little different though. Hares are usually larger, have longer ears and legs, and are born with fur and open eyes, while baby bunnies are born tiny and depend on their mothers.
Don’t worry if this is your very first animal drawing. I’ll guide you through each step, and before you know it, you’ll have your own cute bunny on the page.
Here’s an easy step by step tutorial that will help you create a simple and easy bunny drawing.
Materials you will need:
- A piece of paper
- An HB pencil
- A dust-free eraser
- A black sketch pen for outlines
- Crayons or color pencils for coloring
Let’s get started!
Please note: In each step, the new parts of the drawing will be highlighted in orange, while everything you’ve already drawn will stay in black.
Step 1: Draw the bunny’s ears
Let’s start with the ears because they’re one of the easiest parts to recognize. Draw two long ears near the top of your paper using smooth curved lines. One ear can be slightly taller than the other to make your bunny look a little more playful. Leave enough space underneath because we’ll draw the head next.
Step 2: Draw the bunny’s head
Now draw a large round shape underneath the ears to create the head. Connect the ears smoothly so they look like they’re growing from the top of the head. Don’t worry if your circle isn’t perfect. Mine rarely is on the first try, and that’s completely okay.
Step 3: Draw the bunny’s body
Next, draw a large horizontal oval beside the head to make the body. Try to make it a little bigger than the head because rabbits have soft, rounded bodies. Connect the head and body with a short curved line so they flow together naturally.
Step 4: Draw the bunny’s legs
It’s time to help your bunny sit comfortably. Draw two small front legs underneath the body, then add two slightly larger back legs near the tail end. Keep the shapes rounded instead of making them too thin. Simple shapes usually look the cutest.
Step 5: Draw the bunny’s tail
At the back of the body, draw a small fluffy tail using a simple circle. It doesn’t need to be perfectly round. This little detail is what really makes the bunny start looking complete.
Step 6: Draw the bunny’s face
Now let’s give your bunny some personality. Draw two small eyes, a tiny nose, a smiling mouth, and a few whiskers on each side. Keep everything nice and simple. Small facial features usually make cartoon animals look even cuter.
Step 7: Color the bunny
Now comes my favorite part, adding the color. You can make the inside of the ears soft pink and leave the bunny white, or color the whole bunny light brown, gray, or even black. There isn’t a wrong choice here, so have fun with it. I also like adding a little carrot beside my bunny, and if you’re making an Easter picture, you could draw a colorful Easter egg or a few flowers around it to finish the scene.
